Abstract – – Introduction: Palliative care is an approach aimed at improving the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, advanced organ failure, neurodegenerative diseases, among other chronic and progressive conditions. This practice does not seek a cure, but rather the relief of suffering through the prevention and control of pain and other physical symptoms, in addition to providing emotional, social, and spiritual support to the patient and their family. Thus, the objective of this study is to conduct a literature review on the role of nurses in palliative care in Primary Health Care. Methodology: the methodology used was a literature review. To search for bibliographic material, the PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo platforms were used, using the keywords “nurse”, “palliative care” and “primary care”. Results: 18 (eighteen) publications were selected, which were categorized and described according to year of publication, authorship, objective of the study and results achieved. Final Considerations: The role of the nurse in palliative care in Primary Health Care (PHC) is essential to ensure comprehensiveness, humanization and continuity of care for people with progressive and terminal chronic diseases. By establishing bonds, promoting reception and coordinating interdisciplinary actions, the nurse becomes a key player in the early identification of palliative needs, in alleviating suffering and in improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
