Introduction: This article aims to investigate the role of nurses in prenatal, childbirth and postpartum care, in addition to understanding the normative and technical foundations that support the monitoring of nursing professionals at each stage of pregnancy. Objective: Thus, it was decided to conduct a literature review, considering materials published in books, articles, dissertations and theses. Methodology: In this context, it is evident that the intervention of nursing professionals is essential from the beginning of monitoring pregnant women during prenatal care, since this, in many situations, represents the first link between pregnant women and a medical service. Result: Care during childbirth prioritizes the comfort and safety of both pregnant women and children, ensuring that the act of giving birth is not limited to the mere expulsion or extraction of the fetus from the mother's uterus. The postpartum period, on the other hand, is a delicate period and requires a more specific and careful approach on the part of nurses. Final Considerations: When analyzing the role of the nurse in prenatal, childbirth and postpartum care, it was found that the practice of nursing is not restricted to the role of an agent of awareness or clinical support, but of a figure of holistic techniques and knowledge..
