Introduction: Dentistry professionals are daily exposed to various forms of contamination by biological agents presented through organic fluids, saliva and blood. Contamination by these agents can occur through accidents with sharp objects, and can be minimized by adopting biosafety measures. Thus, this study aims to conduct a literature review on accidents with sharp objects in Dentistry, highlighting the main prevention measures. Methodology: A descriptive literature review study was developed. The research sample consisted of publications collected in databases available on the Internet. A total of 454 publications were found, and after applying the exclusion criteria, 439 were excluded, leaving a total of 15 publications in this study, including articles, journals, monographs, dissertations and theses. Results and Discussion: Dentistry professionals are exposed to several risk factors, including chemical, physical and biological risks, as well as injuries that can be caused by inadequate ergonomics. As established in NR-32, preventive measures are in place for risk situations, such as: worker training, use of procedure gloves, closed shoes, masks, aprons, lab coats, gowns, and safety glasses. Final Considerations: the main measures for preventing accidents involving sharp objects in Dentistry are: correct use of personal safety equipment (PPE); correct hand washing; up-to-date vaccination coverage; compliance with the safety standards described in NR-32; continuing education.
